Damien Hirst - Victory over Death

The artwork Victory over Death by Damien Hirst is a limited edition of 58 signed and numbered prints from 2008.

The artwork by Damien Hirst is a visual celebration of the inevitable conflict between life and death. The intricately depicted skull serves as a universal symbol of mortality, rendered with an almost sacred quality, hinting at triumphant acceptance.

The stark contrast between the deep black background and the delicate white gouache outlining the skull suggests a spiritual resonance, amplifying the idea that with every end there is also a beginning. This work reflects Hirst's contemplation of the tensions between the ephemeral and the eternal, probing the philosophy of our existence.

Victory over Death is a photogravure etching on Arches wove paper measuring 46.6x42,3 in.

Andy Warhol was an American artist, film director and photographer, leading figure of Pop Art movement. Born in 1928 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania he changed the art world creating works inspired by Pop and mass culture. Among his masterpieces, Warhol depicted celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, but also everyday objects like the iconic Campbell’s
Soup
, and he made experimental films like Empire.

From a stylistic point of view, he rejected the dominant painting and sculpting techniques and embraced silk-screen printmaking, creating his typical flat areas of color and sharp outlines.

With his New York studio, The Factory, Andy Warhol created a gathering place for artists, intellectuals and celebrities. The scope of his art had a strong influence on other artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
