Thierry Guetta (aka Mr. Brainwash) is a French born street artist famous for his works charged of joy and positivity.
He started his career as street artist after the 2010 film Exit Through the Gift Shop. Directed by Banksy, it featured Mr. Brainwash himself as protagonist.
Appropriating images from art history and popular culture, Mr. Brainwash merges stencil characters like Einstein and Charlie Chaplin with his iconic mottos like Life Is Beautiful and Follow Your Dreams.
Who is Mr. Brainwash?
Born in 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse in France, Mr. Brainwash is one of the most known street and pop artists worldwide. His artworks have reached popularity among art lovers, collectors and gallerists.
At the beginning of his career, Mr. Brainwash followed his cousin Invader, another iconic street artist, and met the leading artists of Street Art like Obey (Shepard Farey) and Banksy. While following all these artists like Invader, Obey and Banksy, Mr. Brainwash films his emerging career as an artist. Banksy directed the movie, in which it is possible to see every backstage of this process.
In 2008 Thierry Guetta organised his first solo exhibition to let the world know him as Mr. Brainwash. His first exhibition was set in Los Angeles, on Hollywood Walk of Fame Sunset Boulevard, inside a space of around 15,000 square-foot.
His first exhibition took place on the 18th of June 2008 and was called Life is Beautiful. During the majestic exhibition, Mr. Brainwahs showed the public more than 300 artworks counting paintings, prints and sculptures.
Thanks to this first exhibition, the artist started working exclusively on his artistic career, known as Mr. Brainwash worldwide.
Mr. Braiwash - Banksy: are the same person?
Since the beginning of his career, the identity of Bansky has been a mystery: no one really knows who hides behind the most iconic, irreverent and famous person in the Street Art scene. Consequently, due to his friendship with Mr Brainwash and the movie directed by Banksy to promote Mr. Baiwnwash as a new street artist in the art scene, people start assuming that Mr. Brainwash is actually Bansky.
